In the tradition of other award-winning hacks (ColorFinder, MovieFinder), CyberFinder extends the Macintosh Finder in ways never before thought possible! With the addition of CyberFinder to your Macintosh, the Finder becomes a database for your favorite sites on the Internet. No more trying to remember whether you stored the info in Netscape or America Online - now keep it all in one place!
Usage
To use CyberFinder, hold down the shift key when selecting from the Finder's File menu and "New Folder" becomes "New URL". You can also use Cmd-Shift-N. Enter your desired URL and select "OK" (you can also paste in things from the clipboard). The URL is created in the front most folder displayed in the Finder, and just like a folder, you can immediately rename it to something more memorable than "Untitled URL". Each URL has an associated icon and kind, so that you can easily identify what type of site it is - though you can always paste any icon you wish over ours.
To connect to a host, just double-click on it. The Finder will launch the appropriate application as designated in Internet Config and away you go. Just like aliases you can put CyberFinder URL files anywhere you would place other files you want to open - from the desktop, to the Apple Menu, to your favorite launching program such as Now Menus, DragStrip and OtherMenu.
You can also create a URL by dragging text to the Finder and holding down the shift key. The shift can be held down on commencement of the drag or on termination of the drag. A URL is created instead of a clipping.
To edit your URL you select "Get Info" in the Finder and a new text field is created below the standard Finder fields. This is the URL. You can type in a new URL here, paste one or drag and drop some text or a clipping. When you close the window the URL is updated as well as the displayed icon.
System Requirements
CyberFinder requires at least System 7 Pro or later, specifically the Scriptable Finder. However for best functionality, we recommend the use of System 7.5 or later.
